Story: A film shoot built on a foundation of philanthropy. A New Mexico spring in Chimayo, known as a drug capital, and filled with at-risk youth unaware of other opportunities right in their backyard. A fully local crew, and fully local vendors & resources.
We created a conscious production from the ground up. The script. The open communication we put into daily practice, and green production, before it was a thing. We refilled every ink cartridge and recycled every piece of paper. There were no plastic water bottles for the run of show. Our main house location belonged to a little old lady who couldn’t afford to upkeep it; instead of faking things with flimsy production design elements, we actually repaired her house permanently, and she was able to move back into it. We had set visit days for kids of various age groups, and crew from each department gave talks and demonstrations on what they did, encouraging the kids to seek out many resources in Santa Fe and Albuquerque that could help them train for a career in production. And we had a full-crew vote on which non-profit to donate 2% of the film’s profits to.
A premier at the Santa Fe Film Festival wrapped up the process with an outpouring of local support for a local project about a real local issue.
